About

Cold Fiction Music is an internet music label that focuses on releasing electronic music from independent artists. We have always had the goal to promote the work of talented artists who strive to become better known in the electronic music scene. Over the years, we have released a wide range of music, including IDM and Psy-Trance. Each year, however, we have continually focused on releasing Ambient and Techno music, especially Dub Techno and Ambient Techno. Our interest in the latter two genres, along with our love for releasing collaborative albums, led to the development of Futur[e]cho – our yearly series of Dub and Ambient Techno releases which feature many different contributors. We release all of our music under a Creative Commons license, providing free versions of almost every release and reasonably-priced paid versions of many of them on Bandcamp.

James Shain, the head of Cold Fiction Music, established the label in 2009 from the ashes of Carbon Forest Music, a label that arose from the collaborative effort of members of the Nifflas’ Support Forum. With the help of that community, we released our first album in July of 2009. The positive reception that we received from our first few releases has motivated us to continue to release music ever since. About six years later, we are proud to unveil our latest website, which improves the music browsing experience immensely by providing better-organized information on releases and their artists.

We hope that you enjoy the music that you find on our label! If you have any questions or comments or would like to release your music with us, feel free to contact us.
